Whatever has Mountain Dew got to do with Memory, Learning and Confidence?

Mountain Dew was his language, his experience, his security.
My computer programmes, chocolate, purchased and created aids belonged to the confused world.

Memory.
While memory is built up in layers it is stored in bits in apparently random places and re-created each time it is recalled. I understand that a CD or DVD does not store information in a sequential pattern but in various segments across the disk; and yet the music or film is recalled in perfect order.
If you load information: a,b,c,d,e,f,g onto a disk and a little late your delete b, c and f then the next pieces of information you load will fill up those empty spaces first and not necessarily in linear order.
I think that this is one of the ways that a creative combination of ideas can emerge – eureka!
Additionally you can think of memory recall as a chain that has been build up of sequences.
If a link or segment is missing or defective then the whole cannot be recalled.
In such I cases I would say, “I read something somewhere that said something along the lines of ….”
Then they say that if you want to really know a subject then you teach it.
Into this statement is built in the detailed learning of the subject so that you can explain 
or demonstrate it externally and that repetition of knowledge builds in repeated practice.
Repetition or habit is one of five proposed learning gateways to the mind.
For these reasons when Inner Mind Reading you would elicit the information in sequence;
each layer building on the last and also being efficient in time as you do not elicit information
that is not to be used at this time. Also with each success you are building confidence.
There is also the state and none state theory of memory.
Followed by: where memory is stored; is it confined within your scull or in every cell of your body?
However, right now we are concerned with the memorising of information, clearly and long term.

Does memory come before learning?
I leave that for you to debate.
Learning is acquired in layers, by practice and with increasing confidence.
Confidence is being able to perform a skill whereas self esteem is having secure inner regard.
Learning can enter the mind / body by a proposed five routes:
Trauma, habit, hero worship (think pop stars, advertisements etc), authority figures (think parents, law, religion etc) and alpha (in hypnotherapy we use the authority of the self during the alpha state 
to access the other four areas of learning.)
The learning state of alpha is natural and starts to initiate as soon as you close your eyes or focus increasingly inwards on a subject, novel, film, conversation etc. In doing any of these activities
you could be considered to be in an enhanced environment. Each time you experience something your brain immediately starts laying down the foundations for its memory/recall and this requires a new neural network – or extra space on the CD. This is a purely physical matter; think of someone who’s been confined to bed and you recognise that their muscles atrophy or an elderly person
who’s hormones have altered and therefore does not have the capacity of the young or a person
who’s family history indicates a ‘weak’ heart; if any of these people increase their exercise then new muscles and veins etc are created. Similarly the great ‘they’ took a number of mice from their boring cage and put them into a cage with interesting activities. The enhanced activity mice stayed in this enriched environment for shorter and shorter periods of time so that eventually the scientists found that the building of neural networks started as soon as the mice entered the enriched environment.
It is not simply a case of use it or lose it but also of continuing or starting to build your abilities.
With Inner Mind Reading after you have poured all that information into your inner mind
and submitted a request for certain information that satisfied your purpose to be recalled for your first layer of learning recall you then get out of the way and give your neural network the chance
to organise itself and create the necessary new neurons.

Confidence.
I was engaged to help a 13 year old get past his problems with algebra (the fact that algebra is a complete mystery to me is irrelevant). My intent was to find the point just before, that is the point 
of his security. I got forward to fractions as the first point of insecurity, the frightening quagmire with 
no way out. I used my skills, my ingenuity and we got nowhere. I then grabbed the empty bottles 
of Mountain Dew he and his father had been drinking and put a fraction of water in one of them.
Mountain Dew was safe, it was part of his understanding and it had nothing to do with fractions.
Light dawned and very rapidly he was able to bring into his confidence the things his teachers 
had been trying to teach him. I find it interesting that when you work with critical incident de-briefing you take the person back to their point of confidence before the trauma, or series of little traumas, and ‘lock’ them into their confidence. Another description of this is to ‘anchor’ them in the safe experience of themselves before the distressing incident; or the last straw that broke the camel’s back if there has been a series of accumulating stresses.

How is this expressed in Inner Mind Reading?
By building up the sequence of Inner Mind Reading using the language with which you are most familiar, expressed as ‘your primary and secondary learning modalities’.
In English that means starting with the simple and building into the more detailed how-tos
of each stage: You pour the written information into your inner mind thus bypassing your eyes
and conscious mind, unexpectedly to your experience, at this stage the information 
is unavailable to you. You then do nothing while you let your inner mind create the necessary neurons while cataloguing this information. Finally you bring the information that is required at this moment into your conscious awareness.
These three little points are then built upon as your knowledge (learning), security (confidence)
and memory (recall) are extended (enhanced).
The usual last way of eliciting and recording the information you wish from your written material
is to create a mind map and mind maps are an excellent and efficient way for most people to store and recall information. Therefore we start creating mind maps during our first session as a mind map covers the learning styles (your safe language/experience) of being visual – I’ve seen some that are works of art. For those who learn best by hearing I tell stories that builds up dialogue in your mind and these stories are copied with a few words on the mind map. For the kiensthetic and those who like the security of notes and handouts you are physically building up a representation of your learning in a way that satisfies your personal experience while encompassing the necessary structure of the learning process. For those of you who use olfactory and gustatory points of reference
I’m afraid that you’ll have to add these yourself and are encouraged to do so.

How do I know if I have a problem and how big it is?

There are many ways to find out if you have a concern or the answer to a question
and I shall describe four; one of which I cannot do.
Dowsers, kinesiologists and a good number of others might insist on pre questions or procedures but I don’t have time to itemise those here; so we’ll just ‘go for it’ or you could put your Magnificent Self 
in charge; this is an Energetic – NLP term meaning the combination of your Inner Wisdom which is based in your day to day reality with your Spirit which has an overview of your life’s big picture.

Why might you want to do this?
In Turbo Charged Reading we use purpose to set the course for success
and mind instructions to direct the innermind in the type of success wanted at that time.
If you do not believe that these are attainable for you
then your subconscious gremlins will delight in ensuring that subconscious belief.

Stand up and say to yourself ‘I am (10 or so years younger than your age)’
then ‘I’m (the age you are)’. What do you feel? What happened? Nothing?
Now tell yourself that you’ll lean backwards if your answer is ‘No’ and forward if your answer is ‘Yes’.
It’s always useful for your subconscious to know what is expected of it so that it can respond appropriately. There are reasons why ‘No’ is back, but not now.
Now ask yourself those questions again. Try ‘I’m a man’, ‘I’m a woman’, ‘I’m a child’ and anything else you care to find a ‘yes’, ‘no’ answer for or if you remain static then that counts as a response that says ‘I’m not sure / I’m not ready to answer yet’. Should you remain static between man and woman it may mean that you are nicely balanced between the masculine and feminine, or balanced between adult and child so ask, 'is my current front door black?'. 
What can you use this for? Examples could be: ‘is it helpful for my health / diet for me to eat cabbage’? Cabbage is a wonderful and very beneficial vegetable but too much of it can be too much for certain people / conditions. You may used these methods to discover food sensitivities particularly as our metabolism changes at points in our life and health; even during the day
as our food intake changes.
However, it is wise to remember that Midas knew exactly what he intended and he received exactly what he asked for! So you need a mind sharper than any lawyer and if your mind is not that sharp why not try asking a checking question?

Touch your thumb tip to your index finger tip and link your other thumb and index finger so that you now have a chain. Now ask ‘give me yes’ please’ and repeatedly gently pull your circles apart
and eventually after a few pulls you will find that one circle will break. Now ask, ‘give me No please’
and gently pull your circles apart a few times and the opposite circle will break.
I know a prospective Deacon of a church take her multi-choice exam using this method!
I am aware of a therapist who uses this to decide the best time for a client’s next appointment.
This one I’m not sure about because I thought that time is elastic and therefore things can change but another argument is that time is not linear. 
However, unfortunately, these dowsing or energy testing techniques cannot be used for finding 
the winning lottery numbers. – There is always a catch isn’t there!

Imagine that you can see traffic lights. It is easier if you close your eyes until you get the hang 
of this next one. Red means ‘no’ or ‘stop’, amber means ‘I’m not sure / I’m not ready to answer yet’ and green means ‘yes’ or ‘go’. You could ask if you believe an affirmation because if you don’t then the affirmation is counter productive for you. You could ask if your purpose for a project is in keeping with your overall life needs, or if your purpose is sufficiently specific. In Turbo Charged Reading we use both Purpose and Affirmations (as mind Instructions - thee is a difference )as the driving force to the process; though when I used to forget to use the affirmations it worked well anyway but since I like as much on my side as possible
I use affirmations and check that they are compatible with my beliefs about my abilities
or self confidence / esteem.

Finally, try dowsing with a pendulum. Much to the disgust of a friend I use anything that will act
as a plum bob such as a shoulder bag, a trainer dangling from a lace, a dangly necklace, etc.
Ask your pendulum to give you ‘yes’ then ask for ‘no’. For me ‘yes’ is a clockwise circle and ‘no’
is anti-clockwise; however some people have up and down for ‘yes’ and across for ‘no’.
I asked if I could physically achieve …… and received a ‘yes’. I then asked if I believed that I could achieve …. I received a ‘No’!!! This is because it is perfectly logical that a spider treated with respect
is not going to hurt you but do you believe this? A person with arachnid phobia will not believe.
Here it is useful to note that Carl G. Jung said that every man is born prejudice towards himself
and that he couldn’t use the I Ching because he had a vested interest in the outcome.

What is happening and why? And why do these techniques work?
As you found if you don’t set up the signals for yes and no then, generally, nothing happens.
If you hung a pendulum on a door knob and asked the same questions then nothing would happen.
That you get the answer to the question you actually ask your subconscious mind;
but importantly you may not be aware or cannot be aware with your current conscious knowledge
that there is an alternative question.
These responses are rather like a thermometer, a Geiger counter, a second hand or anything else that amplifies a signal so that it can be appreciated and measured.
We amplify our inner vibes or knowings and we can also amplify what we energetically perceive
in others and this generates the response of the technique we are using.
Even though you can’t actually see it you are swinging the pendulum as you are reacting 
to the energy of your own knowings or your energetic perception of the other person.
Sometimes the ‘handles’ of dowsing rods are in cylinders so that it is impossible for you to affect 
their direction. The dowsing rods are reacting to the energy of the ley lines etc that are travelling through you in much the same way as a weather cock reacts to the wind.
For example I dowsed where the dragon and dragona ley lines crossed in Thetford Uk,
as I was standing on this junction a friend then said, ‘close your eyes’ and I rocked rather dramatically as the energy wooshed up through my body!

Are we all equally sensitive and can we all ‘do’ this?
We all have the potential but like everything else it is easier for some than it is for others.
Also, some people can work with one sort of energy and not with another, or poorly with another.
At teacher training college we had a Galvonic Skin Bridge, this was an elementary lie detector
that measured the skin sweat or temperature – I forget which. With one guy we tried our dirtiest tricks but we couldn’t get anything but a flat line, with another we had to pull out all the stops
to get a small blip and when one girl agreed that the blue pencil was red and it went haywire.
For myself I couldn’t achieve a straight line so no one could find my truth or lie; though when
I trained as a hypnotherapist one guy knew every time I lied because I clench my teeth when I lie. Therefore we are all sending out energy or vibes and sometimes we can be aware of our own energies or the energies of others. Time and distance make no difference to people who are adept
at perceiving energy and transmitting energy. I just thought I‘d throw all that in for good measure.

What to do now that you have identified an issue?
Well you could check out my other articles on how to resolve issues or you could try the psychological reversal TFT or EFT tapping point as we do with Turbo Charged Reading as then we are not ‘doing therapy’ we are simply finding if the purpose and mind instructions are positive for that time.
To do this find the karate chop point at the side of your hand, that is the pad below your little finger and above your wrist and having found this tap it a few times with the finger tips of your other hand. When I tried this with my negative belief in my physical potential I got a neutral position with the pendulum, an amber traffic light or the stationary position when standing.
I then tapped a few more times before I received the positive response that I now believed
it is possible for me to achieve ….. On re-checking this a few days later
I still maintained a positive belief – I’ll keep you posted. Yes, I achieved with the help of a professional.

The neutral position, can you be more specific?
Neutral can mean that you are not ready to move yet and this would be worked with therapeutically
as would being somewhat stuck. With Turbo Charged Reading we are not in a therapeutic situation
and would simply use a different acceptable purpose of mind instruction or treat the neutral position
simply as just a point on a scale that we want to get into the positive range.
How do you find the 1 to 10 scale people ask for when trying to gauge how distressing an issue is and whether or not it has cleared up?
This, not surprisingly, is called a S.U.D. that is a Subjective Unit of Distress.
Imagine a thermometer, a fuel gauge or ask for a number (that may flash) or if you are like me you just take a wild guess. Actually there is nothing ‘wild’ about these guesses it’s just that I don’t ‘see’ 
nor am I consciously aware of these figures so I just have to trust my subconscious mind to come up with the right figure.
For example take a phobia and for me, as a therapist, they come as a five minute phobia cure,
a twenty minute phobia healing or it may take a few sessions in order to resolve the issue.
When using a SUD the person generally sets off with a high number which reduces however some people allow the second time of asking for the number to rise and this simply means that they are allowing themselves to feel the ‘fear’ more accurately and so they are making admirable progress.
Keep tapping or using the method of your choice until your number comes down to a level that is reasonable with whatever is happening in your life at this time. So while 1 or 2 or even 0 is desirable 
it might not be practical when taking all your other considerations into account.
Or your issue might be such that to release it all now might be far too uncomfortable
and so it is healthier for you to release a little bit now and a little more later on or in a day or so.

Your body leads your mind and your mind leads your body.

Below Tony Robins describes how he used his body to affect his mind.
I don’t imagine that for one second he uses those methods now
but they make a good and exciting demonstrative story.
When describing the trance state to clients or the learning state to Inner Mind Reading students
I often use the following examples as these identical states mean moving from the chatty active state of beta brain wave to the slower meditative state of alpha brain waves.
This is a process you cycle through many times a day and is most easily recognised when you drift into sleep and drift into wakefulness. Or when you are ‘miles away’; totally absorbed in a book, film 
or conversation so that the rest of the world melts away and when you find that you have driven
for miles and cannot remember the last roundabout or intersection.
In all these states and stages of alpha you have behaved perfectly safely and in control
because alpha is a perfectly normal brain wave sate for you to experience.
It is not an on/off switch but more of a balance of degree, the flow of water through a tap.
The chemicals of your body can be altered in nano seconds and they obviously affect your emotional ability to the degree of their alteration.

If you are sitting, look down, put your  elbows on your knees and your head in your hands and let your shoulders slump and in this recognised depressed body posture science records that your depressed chemicals flood though your body – fast!
This is an example of the body leading the mind.
Now think of something wonderful, for me it is the vibrant laughter in my grandchildren’s eyes,
think of something exciting, laughter inducing or whatever brings joy to your mind.
Your body will raise; your body chemicals will alter in a split second, your muscle tone
and everything physical and therefore emotional will change.

HOW TO GET FROM DOWN TO UP.
A friend hypnotherapist used to complain of a bad back and stand when speaking with a depressed client as it caused them to look up. Depressed people look down! So when you find yourself walking along looking at the pavement absorbed in your unpleasant thoughts simply look up. Observe the skyline, the tree tops the roof lines; I bet you didn’t realise just how interesting roof lines can be!
Your mind is now otherwise engaged; your eyes are no longer downcast but are the opposite
to depressed and over concerned; they are open to more light – an important consideration.
Whistle. It is physically impossible to be depressed or unhappy when you whistle. Now you may not be the world’s greatest warbler but you can whistle inside you mind and if you are like me
it takes quite a bit of concentration and you will end up laughing inside.
Another body leading the mind strategy is to pretend to physically belly laugh; that is to exaggerate the movements of laughing like a clown. Put your fist on your tummy and breathe out loudly ha, ha, while simultaneously jogging your head and shoulders forward. I clearly remember the first time
I tried this, exactly where I was standing and the thought of, ‘what if someone was to see me
do such a silly movement’ this caused me to laugh out loud genuinely. And that simple memory always caused the rush of laughter within my body – in NLP terms this is known as an anchor
or in hypnotherapy as a trigger – a traffic light is a trigger as when it flashed red  you stop
you don’t think - you simply stop.
Tony Robins describes how he used his body to engage his mind in a positive, can-do, invincible attitude that was actualised in his voice, words, posture, demeanour and ultimate success.
Bruce Springsteen describes a mind trigger when he said that if he didn’t feel nervous before
a performance he wasn’t ‘pumped’ and he needed that excitement to perform and to engage
with the excitement from the crowd.
Look at a little child, their bodies brim and bristle with emotion particularly around the age of 18 months to two when often such exuberance is socialised out of them.
Think of exercise, dancing, smiling, listening to exciting music and any other physical activity that lifts your mood and just play it through in your mind maybe with a John Cleese Ministry of Silly Walks background.

Remaining with body triggers (think of a light switch) I always end a trance session in the same way as this serves two principal purposes. Firstly the person knows that their body and mind is to return up to the active waking state and secondly, should they have been consciously or subconsciously resisting the therapeutic values they have paid for, their mind thinks, ‘OK that‘s it, time to go home now,’ and they drop their defences and the therapy work slips in. Magic! During this time I also add some other features including: “whenever you stop at a traffic light, your shoulders drop a little and any stresses of the day simply fall away like water off a duck back.” I think I describe the benefits of this elsewhere. So you can consciously employ these physical techniques to everyday stressful situations of your own. From DOWN to UP or UP to DOWN.


HOW TO GET FROM UP TO DOWN.
Sometimes this is as simple as relaxing your body even if you have to force your body to relax.
When I start a relaxation process I am often surprised to find that I am, in fact, holding tension in my muscles.
Hypnotherapists often use body relaxation to help people enter the trance state of alpha.
The therapist simply starts at the top of the head and works down the body or starts from the toes and works up describing the state of relaxation in detail. I don’t generally do this as I find it to be
a waste of time and not particularly interesting. But when I‘ve experienced this myself
I will be consciously thinking, ‘just a minute my shoulders have not relaxed and you’re talking about my tummy!’ While I’m busy concentrating about my shoulders and arguing inside I’m not paying any attention to the rest of my body which is happily relaxing into trance and eventually there is more
of me relaxed than not and my shoulders eventually give up and go with the consensus.  
However, one girl dramatically jerked back into full alertness when I reached her tummy
so after discussion I asked her and when we reached her tummy I asked her tummy if it was OK
for it to stay alert while the rest of her body relaxed and this worked well.
In everyday situations some people advise you to clench a muscle and then let it relax however
this can raise your blood pressure while the relaxation above actually reduces your blood pressure, body temperature and chemical activity.
Employ the opposite of The Ministry of Silly Walks and behave as if or imagine yourself as if you are the calmest person or animal or feeling that is possible for you and score yourself and then see if you can become even calmer.

The Powerful Magic of Bubbles.

My screen saver has drifting circles that change colour when their surfaces
share the same space but sometimes they change colour just because.
I find this to be gently fascinating and curiously relaxing as the bumping
bubbles mimic the random possibilities of beauty that our cares in life
often obscure from awareness.
As a hypnotherapist I’ve often used the power of rainbow bubbles and would now like to share
that skill with you. But first I must become the travel hostess and point out the safety features
for those of you who go into a deep trance state. Kick out the kids and cats and anything else
that might surprise you as they leap onto your lap, shut down your mobile and any other potential noisy disturbance and, should someone insist on an impromptu visit remember
that you are a bit spaced out and pretend that you are moving in the dark
and hang onto the chairs for support as you go to the door.
Otherwise in a real emergency you will automatically become fully alert and able.

Back to bubbles, first identify your ‘issue’ and recognise that it may consist
of many layers; and that for some people all those layers might blow away instantly
like tall towering clouds in a powerful and cleansing wind
but for others a gradual dissolving over some days is more appropriate.
Give your issue a value from a rather pathetic 1 to a dramatic 10
so that you will know if your issue has been dealt with completely
or if it needs another pass when convenient or in a few day’s time.
Close your eyes and relax either into what you recognise as a trance or a meditative sate.
If you are not practiced with these then you might like to try this relaxation skill called
Heart breathing; I teach this to Inner Mind Readers to enable them to enter the learning state.

To practice Heart Breathing: Put your fist over your heart, close your eyes,
breath in deeply and expand your chest, your spine elongating, your shoulders widening
and your head up and proud with your nose and chin horizontal to the floor.
Breathe out slowly allowing your body to curl down somewhat and say or think “Relax”.
When breathing in a second time my chest expands a little making my shoulders raise,
then I breathe out gently and my lower back seems to curl down while I say, “Soften”.
On my third breath, only my chest moves before I breathe out lazily
with my shoulders dropping and I remember to say, “Flow”.
Try this when you feel stressed or anxious – it works. 
I learned this when I did my Sports Psychology degree – so the next time you ‘know’ your golf ball 
is going in the opposite direction to your intention simply breath away that ‘knowing’.

Back to Issues: Picture your issue as the gung tangled in the magnified fibres of a clothes washing powder advertisement. Tip in your detergent and watch, and since I often can’t visualise these things I tell myself the story of the detergent releasing the bits of the issue as gung blobs that float

Maybe you have little tiny crabs nipping at the toes of your issue or maybe Nora the Nit Nurse
is combing them out. Why not share your best ones with me and others
– let’s have some fun and help each other cut these issues down to size.
The freed gung blobs then float to the surface of the water where the blobs,
break through and float into the air still as gungy and as horrible as ever.
Now is the time to blow some rainbow bubbles or switch on a bubble blowing machine
or invite your angels or even the BFG to blow bubbles from their magic horns.
These bubbles have the power of the colours, tones, hues and the full range
of vibrations outside of our awareness; they are filled with love, respect, freedom, joy
and everything we wish for each other. They have the ultimate power of the universe and are unconditionally supportive, they are just perfectly right for the issue that is rising out of the water. 
As the issue gung blobs rise they change colour when their surfaces share
the same space as the rainbow bubbles, sometimes they change colour
just because they are in such an accepting environment.
Keep blowing bubbles that embrace all the gung blobs thus breaking them down to their constituent parts; finally into something simply beautiful that is assimilated into the rainbow bubbles
that are blowing freely away into the skies,
your issue does not now have the form to reassemble and so it is gone forever.
You may not be bothered but at this point some of you might like to check the distress number
or value you gave regarding your issue and if there still is a number
you might like to play the bubble game in a day or so until you no longer feel the need.
